Lend a helping hand

A few days ago, a colleague, who wishes to remain anonymous, told me about a non-profit called Milaap. And what made it amazing that you were not donating, you were lending.

I've always thought that if we could help people to help themselves, it would go a much longer way than the traditional donating model, which to some extent makes people dependent.

Milaap did exactly this. Their model allows for you to pick the specific cause you want to lend to. 100% of the amount lent reached the borrower. The borrower repays with a marginal interest rate of 5 - 12%, which is used to cover cost of the field partner as well as Milaap.

You can then either re-lend the money or withdraw. My colleague has manage to lend 2x of his original investment in under 2 years. I don't know of any other venture that gives you a 100% return in 2 years.

Check it out. And if you like it, go ahead and lend a helping hand.
